About Me and this Site

First off, welcome to my portfolio. I have created it to give you a little idea of who I am and what I'm all about. I enjoy working with new materials and the process of learning to do so is one of the roots of my love for art and design. A new challenge is something I always like to take on. Growing up going to the Rocky Mountain School of Expeditionary Learning, I have been both blessed and cursed with a constantly thinking and questioning mind, always observing my surroundings and critically considering them and their workings. This has made me who I am today; it is the reason I like to create and explore the many realms of what we as humans can make and do. Maybe it comes down to a fundamental desire that many of us have to manipulate the world we live in. Maybe it's just part of who I am, but either way I like to make people think about why they are doing what they are doing and help them find better ways of doing it when possible. Through the process of doing this combined with working with new and different materials, I will continue to develop who I am as a person and have an impact on my surroundings.

Now for a bit of logistics about the site: I have created this site to showcase my work from the ground up, hand coding each page from scratch. The video player and image viewer use flowplayer and shadowbox, respectively. I have worked to create a site that renders properly over a range of browsers, but for best results use Firefox 3+, Internet Explorer 7+ or Safari 3+. To play the videos, Flash Player version 9.115 or higher is required. For both optimal performance and viewing, please use the fullscreen functionality of the video player by clicking the button on the bottom right of the control bar after opening a video. All videos are offered in HD 720p (1280x720) or in SD (640x360). If there are any playback issues with the videos, feel free to download them using the link on their page and play them back using QuickTime or VLC. The images on the home page link to their corresponding piece and then all images on the individual pages are clickable to open a gallery style viewer. Once in this viewing mode, arrow keys can be used on the keyboard to move forward and back through the series of images. Regarding my interactive piece on transportation, “The Traffic Engineer,” it requires a current version of Java. Any current Mac should have Java pre-installed, as do many other types of computers. As with any multimedia playback, the faster the computer the better the play back will be. Please feel free to contact me with any questions, comments or if you have any issues reviewing any of my work.
