A Looking Glass into Vietnam

This is a compilation of clips that I shot while traveling in Vietnam with a group of adopted children and their families. The majority of the trip wasn't the way in which I prefer to travel; I felt that we were isolated from parts of the culture because of the Americanized places we would stay at and the large group planned activities. Going into the trip, I saw that the nature of the experience would present me with an interesting opportunity to passively document a trip through the eyes of a tourist. I had just acquired the video camera days before leaving and wasn't able to carry a tripod, so please forgive the at times shaky footage. Overall it was a very eye opening experience and interesting to see a group of families who had made the choice to adopt in a setting that was different than their normal surroundings. When capturing footage like this of the landscape and people, afterwards I had a certain feeling that I had taken something away, but not really contributed much of anything to the culture or community while there. In the future if I do a project like this, I would like to not only be a cultural tourist, but also find a way to help out in someway.
