Portfolio Piece: Monome Case

The monome is a computer input device that can be used for a wide array of things as each and every key can be mapped to a different function. I didn't create the monome, but rather this case. I designed and fabricated this case for a student who had soldered together the kit electronics and wanted one as per this specific astehtic. The main part of the case is fabricated out of a solid block of wood similar to Apple's unibody construction as the continuous end grain of the wood is quite beautiful. The case was designed to be easily assembled and disassembled so that the electronics could be worked on at any point in the lifecycle of the device. The contrast of mahogany and aluminum create a homey vintage feeling that invites interaction with the device.
