Portfolio Piece: Decay

This was a site specific installation piece, crafted from wood. I was limited to a specific building on campus and had always found this door a bit peculiar and decided to base my piece off it. The doors are scaled to a exponentially decaying equation as I felt it would be pleasing to the eye to work with perfect proportions, thus my first step in creating this piece was to create a massive spreadsheet with all the dimensions of the original door as inputs to calculate the dimensions of the smaller doors. Originally I had intended to have the full form of the doors, but after painting them and desiring to move in a more surrealist direction with the concept of decay in mind, I took the band-saw to them to create puzzle like pieces. Although a simple piece, I was pleased with how it manifested itself spatially and conceptually.

Medium: Wood and latex paint.

Fabrication Methods: Planed, cut, glued and painted.

Year: 2010
