Portfolio Piece: Messenger Bag

This bag was a final piece for my softgoods class. I decided that I would visually dissect an existing bag and figure out how it was designed and fabricate one of my own. I opted to do this as I felt it would be a good learning experience to see how a already proven product was constructed. I made a few modifications to the design that I felt would better fit the way in which I would use the bag. These included modification to the pocket system, addition of mounting point for bike lights and lighter materials that would still hold up to harsh wear and tear, but allow for a lighter bag. The entirety of the bag was fabricated using a straight stitch industrial machine, which at times was a hassle to use for the application of grosgrain on edges and in places where double stitching was needed. I have used the bag nearly daily the last two years and it has held up exceptionally. I would like to further my knowledge in softgoods and most specifically in the field of outdoors products and backpacks as I enjoy working in this medium a lot. Please excuse the dirtiness of the bag as I didn't have pictures of it while it was still squeaky clean and unused.
